WORKSHOP POSTPONED Writing, Reading, & Preserving 18th century Letters
Saturday, Presented by the Paul Revere House and the Massachusetts Historical Society Workshop Flyer (PDF) Teachers who attend this workshop will study the relationship between literature and history through the use of the most personal of primary sources: hand written letters. Participants will explore who wrote letters and why during the 18th century by examining originals and their transcriptions. By writing their own 18th century style letters with quill pens and by learning about the challenges of conserving and protecting original documents, teachers will gain a new appreciation for the challenges historians face when transcribing 18th century primary sources. Each session's activity will be adaptable to teacher's use in their own classroom. Teachers will leave with examples of transcribed 18th century letters to keep for their educational uses. Save the Date: A new and improved version of "Technology in Paul Revere's Time: Simple Machines through Social Studies" will be held on August 13 and 14, 2013.
