SUMMARY:Lace Making Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the 18th century\, Ipswich\, Massachusetts was the largest commercial producer of lace on the North American continent. Continental production became even more important during the years leading up to the American Revolution when citizens began boycotting imported English goods. Lace of all types from simple tapes to lavish and expensive silk trims were made by the women of Ipswich. Lacemakers Rebecca Audette and Susan Thomson will demonstrate the tools\, techniques\, patterns\, and history specific to Ipswich bobbin lace during the late 18th-century.
