SUMMARY:Holiday Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that while New England colonists considered Thanksgiving “the one day above all others” most Congregationalist families like the Reveres did not “keep” Christmas as a holiday? They did\, however\, often celebrate New Year’s Day by gathering with friends and family over festive food and drink while exchanging gifts like books.  \nThis year we are marking the winter holiday season with book signings by local authors while David Neiman plays seasonal music on the hammered dulcimer in the Revere Room of the Visitor Center. The period rooms of the Revere House are also decorated to reflect patterns of winter holiday usage in the house’s 17th and 18th century history.  \nVisit us on Saturday\, December 11th from 1:30-3:30 pm to purchase a signed copy of Rob Martello’s scholarly work Midnight Ride\, Industrial Dawn\, chat with Rob about Paul Revere’s work\, and hear the music of David Neiman. This book makes an excellent gift along with our robust selection of holiday ornaments\, notecards\, maps\, and colonial games. \n \nThis event is free with admission to the Paul Revere House. No advanced registration or tickets required.

SUMMARY:Who Was Prince Hall?: An Introduction to an Extraordinary Man
DESCRIPTION:The 2021 Lowell Lecture Series presented by the Paul Revere Memorial Association is a biographical series based on influential individuals with North End connections. By highlighting moments in the lives of Thomas Hutchinson\, Prince Hall\, and Pauline Agassiz Shaw\, this lecture series examines their impact on the North End and beyond. SUMMARY:"Such Ruins Were Never Seen In America:" The Looting of Thomas Hutchinson's House During the Stamp Act Riots
This series covers distinct centuries of change in the North End to provide a more inclusive and comprehensive historical narrative. \nOur first lecture is presented by John Tyler\, Editor of Publications for the Colonial Society of Massachusetts at the Paul Revere House\, 19 North Square\, Boston\, 02113 \nOn the night of August 26\, 1765\, a mob attacked Thomas Hutchinson’s house on Garden Court Street\, just off North Square. By the next morning all of his possessions (and those of his servants) had either been carried off by rioters or were left shattered in the street. The detailed inventory of the contents that he submitted\, hoping to be reimbursed by the crown\, provides a unique insight into what life was like inside a great North End townhouse on the eve of the Revolution. \nFree to attend in-person and virtually. \nAll lectures will be available to stream for free and recorded for later viewing via WGBH’s Forum Network. Streaming will be provided at \nYouTube \nFacebook \nLimited in-person reservations will also be available via free Eventbrite registration. All live components are subject to change. \n

SUMMARY:A 57-Year Ride: Cyrus Dallin’s Quest to Raise his Iconic Paul Revere Statue
DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, The Paul Revere House and Cyrus Dallin Art Museum are thrilled to present a joint program to share the remarkable journey behind Cyrus Dallin’s Paul Revere Monument. \nLearn about the origins of this statue\, beloved by Bostonians and recognized around the world as an emblematic image of the city and spirit behind the War of Independence. Born on the Utah frontier\, Cyrus Dallin was just 22 years old and freshly arrived in Boston for artistic training when in 1883 he entered and won the City’s competition to honor Paul Revere’s legacy with a monument in Copley Square. \nIt was not until 1940\, 57 years\, seven versions of the same statue\, and countless twists and turns later\, that Dallin’s vision was realized in the North End’s Prado\, where it stands today. \nThis virtual program will introduce participants to Dallin and illuminate the 57-year journey through the dynamic power shifts that characterized Boston politics in the early 20th century and shaped the tortuous path Dallin pursued to create this work and honor Revere. \nJoin us and learn how this story of perseverance proved to be not just a culmination of Dallin’s lifelong efforts\, but one that also further developed Paul Revere’s legacy and image for future generations of Americans.

SUMMARY:Panel Discussion: “Where We Are\, and Where Do We Go from Here?
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 Lowell Lecture Series presented by the Paul Revere House in partnership with Revolutionary Spaces and Boston’s Green Ribbon Commission will focus on three distinct time periods to explore how climate patterns have changed around Boston\, how humans interacted with\, contributed to\, and adjusted to such changes\, and what the implications of these actions were for Boston and New England. A panel discussion featuring Zoe Davis (Boston’s Climate Resilience Project Coordinator)\, Amy Longsworth (Director\, Boston Green Ribbon Commission)\, and Nina Zannieri (Executive Director\, Paul Revere Memorial Association) will allow for an instructive reflection on how Boston arrived at this particular climatological moment\, where policies may go from here\, and the past and future impact of such policies on historic sites. \nFree to attend virtually \nFacebook Live and YouTube Live \nhttps://www.facebook.com/thepaulreverehouse \nhttps://www.youtube.com/user/paulreverehouse

SUMMARY:Frozen Over: Boston’s Nineteenth Century Ice Age
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 Lowell Lecture Series presented by the Paul Revere House in partnership with Revolutionary Spaces and Boston’s Green Ribbon Commission will focus on three distinct time periods to explore how climate patterns have changed around Boston\, how humans interacted with\, contributed to\, and adjusted to such changes\, and what the implications of these actions were for Boston and New England. The Boston area became a key center of ice production and trade in the nineteenth century. As ice became a pervasive commodity\, it remade everyday life in important ways. Andrew Robichaud\, (Assistant Professor of History\, Boston University) explores those transformations in and around Boston in what was Boston’s economic and cultural “ice age\,” and considers its lasting implications. \nFree to attend virtually \nFacebook Live and YouTube Live \nhttps://www.facebook.com/thepaulreverehouse \nhttps://www.youtube.com/user/paulreverehouse

SUMMARY:Global Warming and Global Cooling in Early Boston
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 Lowell Lecture Series presented by the Paul Revere House in partnership with Revolutionary Spaces and Boston’s Green Ribbon Commission will focus on three distinct time periods to explore how climate patterns have changed around Boston\, how humans interacted with\, contributed to\, and adjusted to such changes\, and what the implications of these actions were for Boston and New England. Prof. Anya Zilberstein’s (Associate Professor of History\, Concordia University (Montreal)) lecture will reveal why we should care that early Bostonians were at the center of vigorous debates about whether New England’s climate had radically changed since the start of the colonial period\, and how this information allows us to weigh this history’s significance for the highly charged debates about actual climate change in the present. \nFree to attend virtually \nFacebook Live and YouTube Live \nhttps://www.facebook.com/thepaulreverehouse \nhttps://www.youtube.com/user/paulreverehouse \n
