SUMMARY:Meet the Artist Behind the Reimagined Boston Massacre Illumination
DESCRIPTION:In 2021\, the Paul Revere House commissioned local artist\, R.P. Hale to reimagine the panels Paul Revere created 250 years before for his illumination honoring the first anniversary of the Boston Massacre. The new panels were used to create a unique virtual event commemorating the dual anniversaries. This March we will again host R.P. Hale in person for a Meet-The-Artist event showcasing the artwork and allowing him to share his artistic process from research to concept to execution. Drop in between 1:00 – 3:00 PM to chat with Hale and see his original artworks for yourself!  \n\nThis event is included with the price of admission to the Paul Revere House thanks to the generosity of the Boston Cultural Council. \nBelow\, see the video of our 2021 Illumination event!

SUMMARY:Paul Revere House welcomes “18th c. Tailor in Residence”
DESCRIPTION:During February Vacation watch historic tailor Henry Cooke turn a well-worn reproduction boy’s coat and remake it to look like new during our debut “18th c. Tailor in Residence” event! Henry will demonstrate his craft inside the Revere Room in our Education and Visitor Center; the event is a drop in experience included in the price of admission & sponsored by the Boston Cultural Council. \nIn colonial Boston\, clothing was particularly valuable because of the cost of the materials of which it was made. Wool and linen had to be imported from England\, and even ordinary broadcloth garments were cared for and mended\, and when they could not be repaired it was a common practice to take the garment completely apart\, turn the pieces inside out and remake it with the new side out\, a process known as “turning.” This handmade reproduction coat sees A LOT of use in our education programs for schools and will be immediately put back into service after it is refreshed!

SUMMARY:“Slavery and Smallpox Inoculation”
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Elise Mitchell\, Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellow\, Princeton University \nThe African Atlantic history of smallpox inoculation is a rich\, yet oft-overlooked story. This lecture contextualizes the more familiar history of Onesimus and Cotton Mather in early eighteenth-century Boston within the broader history of Africans performing smallpox inoculations in West Africa\, Jamaica\, and Saint Domingue (Haiti) in the Revolutionary Era of the late eighteenth century. \nThis event is hybrid\, held in person at the venue below (The Commons) and streaming online. SUMMARY:“The Other Fourth of July: The American War of Independence in the Southern Caribbean”

Indigenous\, enslaved\, and free people seized the opportunity to ally with Great Britain’s chief rival\, France\, and many used this moment of disruption to seek freedom\, sovereignty\, or autonomy. \nThis event is hybrid.
